Rebuilding Public Education Starts with Funding It

Updated: 4 days ago

Florida’s children deserve more than underfunded classrooms and underpaid teachers. For too long, our public schools have been asked to do more with less - and it's students and families who pay the price.

The solution is clear: invest in every child’s future. That means competitive salaries for educators, up-to-date learning materials, and safe, well-maintained buildings. And yes, accountability for all schools - public or private - that receive taxpayer funds.

Vouchers should be a lifeline for families who need them most, not a back door to undermine public schools. Any school that benefits from public money must meet the same standards - including academic standards, support for students with disabilities, and transparent admissions practices.

Educators need more than applause. They need the resources to focus on what they do best - teaching. That includes professional development, mental health support, and classrooms stocked with the tools students need to succeed.

Investing in education isn’t charity. It’s economic development. It’s crime prevention. It’s preparing the next generation to solve problems we haven’t even imagined. Strong schools make strong communities.

We have a choice: keep patching the leaks, or finally fix the foundation. Florida’s future depends on whether we settle for quick fixes or commit to real, lasting investment in public education. Public education deserves more than lip service. It deserves action.
